Rust Proof Ceramic Knives
Ceramic knives are made of very hard ceramic often zirconium oxide or zirconia. These knives are usually produced by compacting zirconia powder using high pressure presses which apply a pressure of around 300 tons to produce blade-shaped blanks. Ceramic knives will not rust.
These knives have many advantages over traditional steel cutlery. Sharper than most steel knives, they are ultra-hard, ultra-sharp knives with edges that hold longer than steel and they can last for years without sharpening. Ceramic knife blades have no metallic taste or smell and are stain-proof and rust-proof.
Their nonstick ceramic surface makes them easy to clean, and their light weight and perfect balance make them a pleasure to use. Several brands offer a black blade made by an extra firing through hot isostatic pressing. This improves the toughness of the blade which is in fact the main shortcoming of ceramic knife blades. Ceramic blades can only be re-sharpened with a material harder than themselves and industrial grade diamond sharpeners are usually used.
Ceramic knives began to be made in Japan and have been around for more than a decade. They are turning out to be more popular in recent years for their sharpness and longer life. These knives are great because they have:
