Dinner Table Setting Italian Etiquette
The Italian dinner party table setting will have guests eating heartily around the table. Lunch or la colazione is the main meal for Italians and is an elaborate affair. Begin by covering the table with the traditional red and white checkered tablecloth. This will create the base for an elegant traditional setting.
Place basic white china place settings at each spot, along with the silverware and glassware for the courses that will be served. Place a wine bottle candle by wedging a taper candle into the opening of an empty Chianti bottle. Allow melted wax down the outside of the bottle for added effect and arrange flowers by the bottle for more effect.
Make creative napkin holders of wine corks and sheer ribbons with beaded edges. Fold each napkin diagonally and roll them loosely. Secure them by placing each napkin through the ribbon loop at the top of the wine corks. Place each rolled napkin on top of each white china place setting.
Place an extra linen napkin in the tall glass, leaving the excess edges of it hanging over the sides. Then fill the glass with breadsticks. Make one or several of these for an elegant and practical touch to the table. A red checkered table cloth instantly conjures up the right atmosphere. Add to this some Italian music in the background like a Luciano Pavarotti CD or any operatic music. A chilled bottle of Chianti on the table will get your guests in the Italian mood. |
